Zombies and Chombie

I just thought of my Halloween, i was mentally roadblocked for the longest time and I couldn't think of anything or anyone to dress up as and then inspiration hits me, at work of all places. I usually cannot get passed the robotic, mundane, day to day, tasks, anyways!
Gato and I are sitting in the truck during our lunch and were messing with the radio, re programing all our stations (for reasons I will divulge in another day, or not) and "Dreaming of You" starts playing, I have not heard this song in 10 years and then Gato starts changing the station in the middle of the song and he hits a Spanish radio station and "Biddi Biddi Bom Bom" is playing, I go wild, I mean I loved Selena, we all did back in the day. I kept singing her songs through out the day (along with Yellow Submarine, which I am teaching Luna, she knows the chorus).
Earlier that day Gato came across the coolest online event at work, its a...get this...Zombie Prom 2009! How cool is that, I have been wanting to be a Zombie but not just any old Zombie.
So I am going to be Selena and a Zombie!!!
I think me dressing up as Selena Zombie will be awesome and all kinds of wrong!
Let's see how it turns out! I hope I have the time and most important I hope my sis can help me with the make up, most of the time my costumes are home made, which are the best. With a little imagination and a lot of liquid courage, I'm ready to start offending the world...dressed up as one Zombie at a time.

Lazy Daze

I have been too lazy and uninspired to write. I had a fabulous week last week and it doesn't feel right to have to go back to work after getting married. I wish I could take a looong honeymoon and travel around the world, go shopping and eat at outside cafes. I would like to go visit museums and take walks in fragrant gardens, shoot Polaroid and people watch.
Gato and I are going to save up enough vacation time to take two weeks off next summer and go up north and Midwest.

Birthday and Wedding in the same week.

My birthday was yesterday, dirty 30!
I am also going to be getting married (again...and in front of witnesses) on Saturday Oct 17.
I am excited to be celebrating this new chapter in my life with all my friends and family. I know I sound so cheesey and before I let this post become full of cliches I will stop.
I went out to lunch with my dad and Gato, we went to an all you can eat Japanese buffet. That's a sample of my dessert plate up top.
I went shopping with my sisters and bought a new blue cardi and a navy striped tunic (which I'll wear as a dress). An H&M just opened up at Del Amo, now I don't have to go all the way to Beverly Center! I'll post pics of my new purchases later. I gotta go get ready for the day, my father -in -law flies in from Alaska this afternoon and my friend Ian is driving down from SF. He is going to be the best man and maid of honor...lol!
Let the Festivities begin!

Masked Jedi

I went to the emergency room last nite. I was having a severe panic attack and a mild asthma attack. The ER doctor said colds can sometimes lead to asthma like breathing problems. He prescribed a inhaler for me. I am going to stop smoking too. I am mostly a social smoker but I should stop all the same.
Weirdest part of the nite, calling Logan my husband in public.
Smart Ass part of the nite, telling the doc our religious preference was Jedi.
Had to make a joke, Gato always makes me laugh and he is the only one who puts up with my hypochondriac ass.

Soup Weather

It cooled down a bit today and I made Caldo De Res. It was delicious, if I say so myself. I really hope the weather stays this way for a while, I love the summer and I love the long days it brings, but I am now ready for a change of pace and mood. I would like to make my little apartment a bit more cozy and have lovely smells of fresh veggies and home cooked meals floating through the rooms. I was able to relax today and eat my yummy beef stew while watching a movie on Netflix.
This is Gatos last week working weekends, I am really happy about this change, now we will be able to sleep in together and enjoy our first fall and holiday as a family.

Femme Fatale

What is it about a song that you have heard over and over and then one day it starts playing on your ipod and its like your listening to it for the first time. You can see the recording of the song in your head, you imagine the ice blond queen, breathing and enunciating into her mic, beautiful and perfect-all in one take.
The tamborine and the guitar sound so clear and the choir chimes in..."she's a femme fatale"
Right now this is my favorite song. This minute, this hour, for the last 7 repeats.

New and Good

There are new and good changes coming soon, first of all I am married. Gato and I tied the knot last Friday (9.4.09) we went to the LAX courthouse and were married in secret. It wasn't too much of a secret, my sis and a few co-workers knew. I wore my blue seer sucker, summer romper, red rope wooden wedges and Cruella lip crayon by Nars. I carried 5 ginormous yellow sunflowers. I became teary-eyed as soon as we walked into the little courtroom when Gato took my hand. The ceremony was short and sweet. Gato and I kissed and hugged at the end and the judge snapped a few photos on my iphone.
I feel different in a good way, I am a new wife, I am married to the love of my life. No one else really knows. I love carrying this title in my heart. We will make it official to our friends and family on Oct 17th. That day we will have a ceremony and reception. Until then our lips our sealed.

You're Nice Like Rice

I have had an irrational fear of making rice.
I love Rice, yellow rice, white rice, Spanish rice, fried rice, arros con leche,
Instead I stick with instant rice.
No matter how much I enjoy rice, I can not make it without under-cooking it, still every now and then, I crave it and I give it another go.
Tonite, with a bit of 'over the phone' tutoring from my sister, I tried my hand at Spanish rice.
Surprisingly, it came out alright, now I know how many more tomatoes I can add to it next time to give it more flavor and vibrant color.
Dinner is done & dishes need to be washed, for dessert were having ice cream with chocolate chip and butterscotch cookies & Gato will be clean the kitchen.

Closet Space

My Last apartment had TONS of closet space, I had two closets in my room, and two more out in the living area. My new apartment has one closet in each room a linen closet and a pantry. I had to store my winter coats in the garage and split my close between "wear" & "don't wear often". Still my dressers are full and disheveled and my closet is so crammed with close that it doesn't do me any good to iron and hang up my dresses, everything I pull out to wear is wrinkled. I was going to re arrange my closet and dressers this morning, maybe even gather a few items to donate to Salvo but somewhere between getting motivated to clean, making breakfast for Gato, and catching up on my daily blog readings (theboobs is huhlarious!) I let that Idea pass and go!

There's always next week.

Polaroid Dreams

Polaroid.
This is my favorite medium. I have 5 instant cameras, 4 Polaroids, 1 Minolta, 3 work, 2 are on display. My sister found my grandmothers SX-70 Land Camera a few years ago and presented her to me, I call her Praline. She doesn't work, however it's nice to have a piece of history. I wish I knew if my grandmother has kept any of her Polaroids.
Hopefully Polaroid will make its comeback, it's supposed to, I like to keep my fingers crossed. I have 18 exposures left & I am picky about what I snap.
I have to be.

Sailing through Summer

I went on a mini shopping spree yesterday. There is the chicest little boutique down the street from me, I can spot it from my living room window. It's called "Ribbons". While my niece napped, my mom, sister and I went to all the little shops on Catalina and Elena Streets. My sis bought me a blue skirt (very similar to the ones they sell at AA), she also bought herself a sage green silk romper, it's so pretty, I will post a picture of her soon. I scored a pale blue seersucker romper and a red sailor striped scarf. Both are very light in color and lite to the touch. I will feel so nautical in them. Simple sailor & Nantucket-y at the same time. My real dream is to be a Jersey Shore girl, however I do not have the long nails, teased tresses and attitude. I know my Fiancee will say I have watched one to many 'Sopranos' episodes, and this is true.
I will keep my sailor style alive all summer and lets see what it may evolve into this Fall. I am in the search for white jeans, a navy 'V' neck sweater, and anything within the three primary colors.

Pink Clouds

Pink Clouds,
say it loud,
We went out to play to end the day
the true blue sky,
hugged you and I.
We closed our eyes,
we said good night.
Free of worries,
free of cares.
We walked hand in hand,
back, up the stairs.

Drunk Brunch

Today's Menu:
Fried Chicken,
waffles &
Beer.
I am going to attempt making fried chicken for the 2nd time. I really want to master this favorite and "simple" all American classic summer food.
To the right is a sailboat I captured with my Minolta on the 4th of July

"If only you'd remember before ever you sit down to write that you've been a reader long before you were ever a writer" -J.d Sallinger

The quote above is one of my favorite and it comes to mind every time I attempt to write. I have not written in a while but I have not given up reading. I re read my fave books over and over. Their pages are falling apart and can no longer be held together by scotch tape. Looking over my book shelf and reading the spine of each book brings back certain memories of different times in my life.
Take a look at my books, some are children books, art books, forbidden books, "borrowed" library books, the good book, books on photography, computer books, history books, more than one version of my favorite books, poetry books, comic books, cook books, how-to- write books & books about writers. Each one has it's own place on my shelf and in my heart.

Sunday Shopping

Two days ago I got paid and today I have no more money. Not really... but my spending allowance is gone. I walked to Trader Joe's and went to Target with my family. I purchased a lovely bunch of Hydrangeas and an Aloe Vera pot from Trader Joe's (actually Gato bought them for me, I left my pocket book at home).
I scored a sweet pair of red rope wooden wedges from Target, I also found a pretty pale blue water jug/vase. It's very "shabby chic" I aspire it to be full of Hydrangeas and wildflowers all summer long.
